Consent Form


You are invited to take part in a research project to study social and ethical issues related to the design of new digital agricultural technologies.

Project Title
Diversity by Design: Emergent agricultural technologies for small-scale farming

Objectives
  • Expose and interrogate social equity and ethical issues related to the design of digital agricultural technologies.
  • Create a space of collaboration and co-creation in which small-scale farmers, technologists and policymakers can come together to identify key challenges in the digital agriculture revolution, and attempt to design equitable and sustainable solutions that serve all actors in the food production system.

This is a research project being conducted by researchers at the University of Ottawa. This project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to:
  • Participate in an online survey about digital agriculture technologies.
Note: 
  • Participation will likely last no longer than 10 minutes.
  • You must be over 18 to participate in this survey
Compensation
An electronic $10 gas station gift card will be emailed to participants who complete the study and provide their email address.

Risks
There may be minimal social risk from sharing perspectives about digital agriculture. However, your participation in the study is entirely voluntary and you may withdraw at any time without consequences of any kind. You may refuse to answer any question and still remain in the study.

Anonymity and Confidentiality
All answers to the survey questions will be anonymized. However, you will be asked (at the end of the survey) to share your contact information (e-mail) if you would like to be compensated for participating. You will also be asked to share your contact information if you would like to participate in any other stage of the research. This email address will not be connected to your survey answers, and it will not be shared by the research team.

Note: Due to data anonymization, you will not be able to withdraw your responses after having submitted them.

Data Conservation
Data will be kept securely on the SurveyMonkey servers and on the research teams’ password-protected computers. Data will be retained for 5 years, after which point it will be safely destroyed.

You may withdraw your consent at any time and discontinue your participation. You do not waive any legal rights by agreeing to take part in this study. This project has been reviewed by the Research Ethics Board for compliance with federal guidelines for research involving human participants.
