Request A Tutor

The Academics First Program collects personal information on behalf of SFU under the authority of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996, c.165). The personal information collected includes name, student ID, SFU email and phone number. It is related directly to and needed by the University to administer a tutoring program. The information will be used to pair tutors with tutees.

If you have any questions about the collection and use of this information please contact academics_first@sfu.ca.

Each term, the Indigenous Student Centre (ISC) provides up to 13 hours of tutoring for currently enrolled SFU First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students.

Tutors are trained and qualified Undergraduate, Masters, or PhD students at SFU.

The ISC works in collaboration with Academics First Tutoring Program to pair students with tutors. The tutoring program provides support for 100 and 200 level courses in areas, such as Business, Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology, Criminology, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics.

We will do our best to fulfill your request within two (2) full business days. Business hours are generally Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding public holidays and university closures.

As a reminder, tutoring support is designed to supplement the academic resources and support available to you. If you require assistance with writing (essays, formatting, structure), book a consultation with the SFU Library's Student Learning Commons (SLC). For writing assistance, you may also use the WriteAway program. We encourage you to utilize the breadth of resources on campus to supplement your tutoring session:

  • Science and Math Peer tutoring: https://www.sfu.ca/physics/about-us/contact/peer-tutoring.html
  • Math workshops and open labs: https://www.sfu.ca/math/undergraduate/current/workshops.html
