Who is conducting this study?
We are researchers from the Interactive Experiences Laboratory (ixLab) at Simon Fraser University, School of Computing Science. The student lead for this project is Haidan Liu, an MSc student in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, supervised by Dr. Parmit Chilana and Dr. Nicholas Vincent.

Who is funding this study?
The study will be funded by Professor Chilana’s NSERC Grant (R611699).

Why are we doing this study?
We invite you to participate in the survey to help us gain an understanding of your perceptions of current Generative AI image-creation tutorials.

Your participation in this research study is voluntary.
If you choose to respond to the surveys, you will be offered to participate in a $50 Amazon.ca digital raffle. Participation is entirely voluntary, and there are no negative consequences if you choose not to take part. If you begin the survey, you are free to change your mind and stop at any time. By consenting, participants have not waived any rights to legal recourse in the event of research-related harm.

Is there any way of being in this study that could be bad for you?
We do not think there is anything in this study that could harm you or be bad for you. Some of the questions we ask might upset you. Please let one of the study staff know if you have any concerns.

Will being in this study help you in any way?
We do not think taking part in this study will help you. However, in the future, others may benefit from what we learn in this study.

Will you be paid for your time?
You will be offered to participate in a $50 Amazon gift card raffle in return for your participation. These gift cards come with a code that you can use to make online purchases through amazon.ca.

How will your privacy be maintained?
Your confidentiality will be respected. Information that discloses your identity will not be released without your consent. Participants will not be identified by name in any reports of the completed study. We will keep your email address and your response in separate files.

Please note that posting to comments sections, liking or sharing on social media or other forums about this study may identify you as a participant. We therefore suggest that if this study was made available to you via a social media site or other online forums, you refrain from posting comments to protect your anonymity.

The data obtained from the survey will be stored on MS Sharepoint in a de-identified format for at least 2 years until they have successfully defended their thesis and only the researchers associated with the project will have access to the data.

The study will be conducted online only. We will not upload the final data set to any online repository for any journal or funding agency after the completion of the study.
