ASSOCIATE VICE-PRESIDENT, RESEARCH COMMUNITY CONSULTATION QUESTIONNAIRE
Reporting to Simon Fraser University's (SFU) Vice-President Research and International (VPRI), the Associate Vice-President Research (AVPR) is a full-time leadership role that supports the priorities and objectives of the VPRI, including the implementation of SFU's Strategic Research Plan.
The AVPR seeks and responds to institutional opportunities such as institutional level funding proposals. The AVPR plays a significant role in ensuring that SFU’s infrastructure and research operations continue to meet the needs of its faculty members. The ideal candidate is an experienced academic leader who brings a passion for research and a track record of success as a researcher and an administrative leader.
Specific accountabilities:
Supports the VPRI in strategic planning and implementing research priorities set out in the Strategic Research Plan.
Provides leadership for university research initiatives.
Provides support to university Deans and their faculty members in achieving their key strategic priorities and increasing the success of the research community.
Strategic oversight of Research Operations (i.e. Research Services, Research Ethics, Institutional Strategic Awards), and Animal Care Services.
Strategic oversight of SFU’s Core Facilities: 4D LABS, ImageTech Lab, eBrain Lab, Big Data Hub, Containment Level 3 (CL3) Lab, WearTech Lab, Public Knowledge Project.
Strategic oversight of the process for creating, renewing and dissolving SFU Research Centres and Institutes.
Strategic oversight of the development of university-led major research grant submissions.
Responsible for developing and tracking key quantitative and qualitative metrics related to research productivity and impact.
Represents the VPRI on department and faculty reviews.
Serves on a number of university and external committees.
Oversees and contributes to SFU’s research policies and procedures.
