202105 Summer (May-August) Offerings and Information

The School of Nursing at the University of Victoria invites expressions of interest from individuals interested in sessional instruction specifically for courses offered in the upcoming Summer term (202105 May-August 2021). Appointments offered will commence May 1, 2021 to August 31, 2021. Note: course availability and offers are subject to change.
Application deadline: March 16, 2021 4:00pm PST
Anticipated offer decisions to be made by March 22, 2021.

Qualifications for all candidates:
· Required education: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and Masters degree* (preferably in Nursing or other health related field).
· Active registration and in good standing with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).**
· Experience teaching in post secondary settings in course credit instruction as primary instructor is an asset.
· Demonstrated ability or capacity to teach in practice and classroom settings (face-to-face and online), including familiarity/experience with online technology-enhanced, experiential, and simulation learning environments is an asset.

Qualified Nurse Practitioner applicants interested in teaching Nurse Practitioner courses will have:

· *required education: baccalaureate degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.
· **active registration and in good standing with with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)** as a Nurse Practitioner.
· Demonstrated expertise and experience as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care settings.
· Demonstrated ability to teach in the practice and online classroom settings, and a willingness to teach and/or have experience in teaching in online technology-enhanced and experiential learning management system environments;
(Note: all Nurse Practitioner graduate programming is offered only through online distributed learning and may have several week long intensives (on-site in Victoria or online) scheduled throughout the academic calendar year).

· (for practice courses offered) must be willing to travel to various practice settings for student site visits locally (BSN courses) and provincially (Nurse Practitioner graduate courses) as nurse practitioner placements are situated within various health authorities within British Columbia. Travel is reimbursed according to university policy.
The School of Nursing reserves the right to fill future teaching assignments from the pool of applicants for this posting. Appointments are subject to sufficient funding and enrollment in courses. Sessional Lecturers are members of CUPE Local 4163 (Component 3).

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - Course Offerings
NOTE: Offers will be given for both NURS 370 and NURS 470 together so there is continuity of instructor to student experience throughout the entire term. NURS 370 is offered for the first 6 weeks followed by NURS 470 for the remainder of the term.  Those hired to instruct these courses will be provided a specific instructor only orientation and then an instructor and student orientation at the beginning of the term.  Instructors for these courses will conduct local student site visits at clinical sites throughout the term to ensure students are meeting course competencies and expectations.  Travel is reimbursed (mileage/parking) for this purpose.


Master of Science in Nursing (MN) - Nurse Practitioner option (NUNP) - Course Offerings 
NOTE:  Instructors for NUNP 544 will conduct student site visits at clinical sites throughout the province to ensure students are meeting course competencies and expectations. Travel is reimbursed for this purpose in accordance with university policies.

*Dependent on what is happening in the health care systems, we will be working closely with the health authorities to develop adaptive ways to approach practice for this term. Subject to change.
