Project Background

Funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training’s recent investment in WIL, and on behalf of the post-secondary sector, SFU is currently leading a project to develop professional development resources (format TBD) for WIL Practitioners/Educators/Faculty focused on WIL learning and teaching.

To aid in our development and to ensure that the resources developed meet the learning and teaching needs of the ACE-WIL BC membership, we are asking each ACE-WIL member to complete a short survey focused on your professional experiences with WIL learning and teaching. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and is intended to be completed by any and all WIL Practitioners/Educators/Faculty. We encourage you to share this survey with colleagues who may have insights into WIL learning and teaching needs and resources within your institutions. Multiple responses per institution are encouraged to aid us in capturing an accurate picture of the state of professional development needs related to WIL learning and teaching at any area of each institution.

When referring to Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), we are using the CEWIL definition of WIL: as a model and process of curricular experiential education which formally and intentionally integrates a student’s academic studies within a workplace or practice setting. WIL experiences include an engaged partnership of at least: an academic institution, a host organization and a student. WIL can occur at the course or program level and includes the development of learning outcomes related to employability, personal agency and life-long learning. Read more about CEWIL’s nine types of WIL and their attributes here.

Throughout the survey, you will be asked to share resources that you and/or your department uses to support learning and teaching excellence in WIL. When sharing resources through SurveyMonkey, please indicate if the document is proprietary to your institution, or provide permission for us to share the resource across the ACE-WIL community where possible. With permission, we will be sharing collected resources with all ACE-WIL BC members through the ACE-WIL BC Resource Hub. Proprietary or confidential resources uploaded through this survey will be kept confidential and used for information purposes only. We encourage you to share any and all available resources, as this will support us in enhancing learning and quality in learning and teaching WIL across the province.

If you wish to participate in this survey through a phone conversation or virtual meeting, or wish to discuss further the resources and needs at your institution, please reach out directly to Natalie Shearer.
