In partnership with the Friends of Simon Tutoring Project, the SFU Surrey–TD Community Engagement Centre provides a no-cost tutoring program for immigrant and refugee children in Grades 4-7.
During the program, tutors will engage participants through educational group activities as well as individual homework and learning support.
Who is the program for?
This program is open to students in Grades 4-7 who have immigrated to Canada or who may have been born in Canada but whose parents/guardians immigrated to Canada.
Who are the tutors?
Tutoring in this program is provided by Friends of Simon Tutoring. Simon Fraser University students are assigned as literacy and numeracy tutors to work with students in Grades 4-7. Friends of Simon tutors are highly trained and qualified SFU students who speak a variety of second languages.
Their tutoring expertise includes the following subject areas: English, Math, Science, French, Social Studies, Humanities and more!

At the City Centre Library (room 401).
When is the program offered?
This iteration of the program runs from January 13th to May 1st, 2025.

The program is offered from 4:00 pm–5:30 pm every Monday and Thursday except statutory holidays and other closures. Students can join the cohort on either Mondays or Thursdays (not both).
