Rural and/or Remote Social Work Survey |
Informed Consent Statement for Survey Participation
Purpose of the Survey
You are invited to participate in a survey designed to understand the professional development and support needs and preferences of social workers practicing in rural and/or remote settings. This survey aims to understand the current perceptions of social workers in rural and/or remote areas toward their available supports and professional development opportunities. It also explores their preferences for future supports and resources. This information will be used to plan for the resources available at the Portage College Rural and Remote Social Work Practice Network. Survey results may also be used to inform future research about needs of social workers practicing in rural and remote areas.
Procedures
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete an online survey that will take approximately 10-15 minutes. The survey will include questions about your field of practice, work environment, current use of and satisfaction with practice resources, and your preferences and needs for support and professional development in the future.
Voluntary Participation
Your participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. You may choose to stop the survey at any time or skip any questions you do not wish to answer.
Confidentiality
Your responses will be kept confidential. Data collected from the survey will be used for planning, research, and funding purposes only. No personal identifiers will be linked to your responses. All data will be stored on password protected computers and databases and will only be accessible to the research team. The results of this survey may be used in secondary analysis for future research on the perceptions of social workers in rural and remote settings regarding the relevance and adequacy of their training, ethical codes, supports and professional development opportunities considering their unique practice contexts. Any ongoing use of data will be subject to approval by the relevant institutional Research Ethics Board.
Risks and Benefits
There are minimal risks associated with this survey. There is potential risk of discomfort of answering certain questions about your opinions/perceptions on the supports available to you. However, you may skip any questions you feel uncomfortable answering. The potential benefits of participating in the survey include contributing to a better understanding of the professional development needs of social workers in rural and/or remote settings, which could lead to the development of more tailored resources and support systems.
