About the Contest
The goal of your poster or video is to raise awareness about proper cigarette butt disposal, promoting a cleaner campus environment and the correct use of receptacles on campus. All you have to do is make a video OR design a poster to encourage others to throw their cigarette butts in the existing receptacles. The winning poster will be printed and displayed by TRU around campus and receives a $100 Loblaws gift card. The winning video will be shared by TRU on social media and receives a $200 Loblaws gift card.
Contest rules:
  • Must be a registered TRU student.
  • Ensure your submission is inclusive and appropriate for the campus environment.
  • Only ONE video or poster submission per student.
Poster requirements:
  • Poster size: 8.5 x 11 inches
  • For stock photos, make sure they are copyright-free.
  • Include in small text on the poster: Issued by the Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics Sustainability Committee
Video requirements:
  • The video should be shot with good resolution (e.g. 1080p) and in MP4 format
  • Maximum length of 30 seconds
  • Video Dimensions: 9 x 16 (Instagram reel or TikTok style)
Judging criteria:
  • Message clarity: How effectively does the material clearly communicate the issue?
  • Creativity: How original and creative is the submission?
  • Impact: Does the submission motivate people to take action and dispose of their cigarette butts in the correct receptacles?
  • Adherence to guidelines: Does the submission follow the provided requirements and contest guidelines?
Judging will be done by the Bob Gaglardi School of Business and Economics sustainability committee. There are also plans for public judging of eligible poster submissions and of the top three video submissions.
